A new Map!
West Marches » Devlog
So we are back again...
I’ve added a decent amount of stuff and am pushing a new update! The main thrust is to add a “Faster then light, slay the spire”-like map to the game. Now instead of going through a set number of levels, you walk across a node graph with random events, some tied to fights, some not, until you get to the “big” fight at the end (big fight pending).
I’m pushing this as an update because I feel it adds something to the game, and significantly increases the small amount of “fun” this concept has. You have a bit more control over you party now, and your actions can lead to permanent changes to their stats or lives.
Changelog:
- New map. Traverse map, visit events, fight end end level and do it all over again
- Mouse controls! You can control the game with your mouse now.
- Left click is confirm
- Right click is go back
- Scroll is move up and down
- New enemy spawning
- Instead of spawning enemies in a set amount, now it takes into account your total level count and max level to spawn around the correct amount of enemies and levels. Might be good, might now.
- Random events. These events used to trigger at the start of each level, now they trigger on the “?” marks on the map.
- Fleshed out, you can now provide a specific unit to take the action, or they can direct you into combat!
- New portraits
- Made portraits higher res, they look nicer now
- Enemy range indicators
- A whole lot more.
Plans for the future:
- More complex events for the “!” events on map. Ideally like quests, with unique end goals (steal an item, talk to an NPC, sneak away).
- Better AI.
- Work in groups
- Use items
- Retreat when low
- Overall goal. Players need a meta goal to complete to stay interested.
